Fitness Trainer’s Course
Course Content
- Health & Fitness - meeting the fitness needs of clients; assessing functional capacity; aerobic fitness; cholesterol & blood glucose testing; program development.
- Weight management – using the Body Mass Index; physical, mental dietary factors in weight control; program development.
- Wellbeing – components of wellbeing; physical activity as a core pillar of wellbeing; mental & emotional wellbeing; social & spiritual wellbeing; program development.
- Nutrition - assessing the nutritional needs of clients: saturated fats and their impact on health; polyunsaturated & Mono-unsaturated ratios; trans fats & and their impact on health, high glycaemia carbohydrates versus low glycaemia carbohydrates; food fads, fibre intake, free radical and antioxidants, metabolic rate, food fads.
- Sport & fitness coaching – communication with clients; understanding client perspectives; verbal language and body language; behavioural perspectives.

Level II
Fitness Trainer’s Course
Course Content
- Functional capacity - epidemiological research; functional capacity and ageing; metabolic rate; nutrition and exercise; slow twitch fibres versus fast twitch muscle fibres; flexibility and back care.
- Pilates - The eight principles of Pilates training (concentration, breathing, cantering, control, movement, flowing, precision); anatomical & biomechanical approaches to Pilates; feedback scales; breathing techniques; breathing rules; program development.
- Stress – stress & distress; boredom & stress; emotional focussing; target organs; type A behaviour patterns; parasympathetic and sympathetic balance; target heart rate exercise as a physical release; nutrition and meditation.
- Women’s Health – definitions; cultural issues related to women’s health; promotion of women’s health; health & well being.
- Injury Prevention - public health impact; epidemiology; biomechanics; categories of injury (acute vs. repetitive); injury risk factors; injury profiles of specific sports (especially cricket); injury prevention strategies; planning for sports safety, research.

Fitness Trainer’s Course
Course Content
- Peaking - Key events in the calendar; peaking , maintenance, and recovery cycles; understanding bio-rhythms, quality of training versus quantity of training; sleep routines.
- Diabetes – Type I & II diabetes; causes and effect of diabetes; diabetes & Diet; smoking & alcohol consumption; program development
- Sport injury management I - emergency action plans; assessing injured athletes (TOTAPS approach); immediate care (first aid, RICER regime); referral to medical practitioners; warm-up and cool down; taping.
- Chronic disease management - nature & type of chronic diseases in south Asia; current & chronic diseases; management of chronic disease; management through lifestyle changes.
- CHD - Causes and effect of CHD; risk factors; controlling hypertension; exercise & diet; program development

Course Structure & Content
- Leadership: Leadership Definition, Situational Leadership, Coaching Relationship versus Performance Coaching, Performance Management.
- Communications: Active Listening to the needs of the Client; Assertiveness, Establishing Trust, Seeking Collaboration, Meeting the needs of your client, body Language and presentation skills.
- Sport injury management II - long term management of injured athletes, including: evaluating the individual needs of the athlete, assessing the risk of re-injury, and the development of musculoskeletal rehabilitation exercises and training programs.
- Corporate Health: training needs analysis, program development, and event management.
